Fund Raising Overview
How the club raises funds for the benefit of Local Charities in Edmonton/ Enfield.
Since 1928 the task of raising money has seen various activities. For example, for very many years Bingo was a main fund raiser, with Horse Race nights and then Casino nights run monthly. A massive fund raiser was even held at Walthamstow Assembly rooms with the Syd Lawrence Band being engaged.
Over the years things change and these days our main fund raisers are: -
Between 14-21 nights of Christmas Collections by volunteers of over a dozen Charities going around the streets of Edmonton. Rotary hire a short flatbed vehicle and install a Christmas Sleigh with Father Christmas distributing sweets to children coming out of their houses to see the brilliant spectacle of Santa with Christmas decorations. Lots of Christmas music and snow machines give great cheer the resident of Edmonton.
Our Easter Egg fund raiser when the Rotary Club of Edmonton donates many 1 Kg Easter Eggs to Schools and other organisations including Charities, Pubs, a Restaurant, some specific shops and our major sponsor, Toyota, based in Edmonton. All these raise money for their own good causes by raffling the eggs.
Quiz nights are also a regular Fund raiser. These take place at the Little Green Dragon Pub in Winchmore Hill.
Car Parking. The Rotary Club of Edmonton has for more years than I care to remember offered Car Parking facilities with the kind permission of Forty Hill School. At least ten days per year sees Fellows from our club directing and assisting in events which take place at Forty Hall.
Halloween. One of our members who owns a brilliant Indian restaurant called the DIPALI at Palmers Green, raises funds at various times of the year, for example Halloween night.
Macmillan Day sees lots of our Fellows making cakes for sale at the Little Green Dragon, where Tea and Coffee plus these wonderful slices of cake are sold to the public.
Garden Parties. Over the years Derek Cracknell has opened his wonderful garden to Fellows, Charities, and friends not only to raise funds, but also to connect and cement relationships.
The Rose Fayre is again going to take place in May 2023, whereby Rotary will be offering our services in the form of the “Human Fruit Machine”.
St. Georges Day is another event where the Human Fruit Machine is evident in the car park of one of the Pubs with local people from Edmonton and Bush Hill Park enjoying the fun.
New ideas for raising funds to assist local charities, are always welcome.
